We will be working class on Wednesday. Bring the sources you included in your annotated bib– be able to access them on your computer or print out the relevant pages. ‘Relevant pages’ meaning, you do not have to print out five 20 page articles, just pick out a page or two from each source that is most relevant to your essay.

Write 700 words of y0ur paper in “hybrid outline form.” All this means is that you will put bullets in places you know will eventually be paragraphs, and flesh out the paragraphs that you want to write now so I can start to get an idea of what your paper will eventually look like. You can write the introduction if you want or skip it– start where ever you’d like. I posted an example on Unit 4 docs and links. It isn’t a “hybrid outline” from this unit (this example is from a problem/solution paper), but it will help you get an idea of what I’m looking for as far as the format goes.

Homework:

Find four different sources to begin addressing (answering) your controlling question

Each source should be in MLA format.  Each entry should be 150-200 words. You need to (1.) Prove to me your source is credible (2.) Summarize the article (3.) Tell me how it will be useful to your Unit 4. and how this information differs from your other sources– Meaning, all three sources shouldn’t give you the exact same information.

*Develop two possible controlling questions for your unit 4 paper.Write the question and a short justification of your question. Show me that you put some thought into it. Have you brainstormed possible body paragraphs? What is some [very preliminary] research you’ve done on this topic? Do you have any sources picked out?  Why would this make a good unit 4 question?

The questions have to be related to water, or the environment, or the natural world in some way.

You do not have to stick to any of the responses, documentaries, or homework that we’ve looked into so far this unit. You can look into something else.

Remember, a good controlling question will be a question you don’t know the answer to. Don’t write it about something you already know or have your mind made up about. And no false questions! Example: “Should we torture poor innocent creatures?” of course not..

Remember that you have five pages to respond to the controlling question that you develop, so make sure it is not too broad or not too narrow (this may take some tweaking, which is fine).
